Phoenix Home & Garden Features Global Surroundings

The March issue of the Phoenix Home & Garden has featured us in an eco-friendly article. A photo of the very popular Lawas Bench is also included. The Lawas Bench is made of reclaimed teak wood. The bench is made by hand. This is truly what we call sustainable furniture. Click on the magazine cover to see the article.

Mountain Communities Drawn to Rustic Teak Furniture

Retailers and designers from Taos, New Mexico to the northern reaches of Montana are embracing rugged and bold look of our Rusteaka line.

Because it is made of reclaimed teak, the furniture can be used indoors or out. For outside applications, people are using the Sunbrella, all weather fabrics while indoors many people are using distressed leather and hair-on-hide.

Two recent retailers to sign on are Montana Expressions in Bozeman, Montana and Montana Style Interiors in Havre, Montana.

"The Thinker" on teak and ice.

Yes, it's a beautiful and comfortable stool but when I fall through this ice, can I use it as a Personal Flotation Device?

Mark Suess Video in Indonesia

Mark Suess and I recently were in Indonesia at our factory working on the Bellasera and Tuscano Collections by Mark Suess.

This interesting short video gives the viewer a quick understanding of how Mark works and how these beautiful collections were developed.

Enjoy,

American Cowboy Magazine

American Cowboy Magazine just published this in the February/March 2008:

RECLAIM Check, By Clare Martin
Reclaimed timbers offer the design particulars of wood as well as the personal gratification of conservation.

•Fair Trade: Reclaimed wood typically comes from structures that are being demolished—but furniture maker Global Surroundings takes a slightly different approach. The company purchases old teak homes in Indonesia and dismantles them, constructing brand-new brick homes for the families who live there. Meanwhile, Global Surroundings uses everything from the front door to floorboards to construct pieces such as this simple, hefty Taos Bench. $1,100. SUPER BOWL CELEBRATION SPOTLIGHTS ECO-FRIENDLY MOVEMENT

Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys with JL Jackson and Mark Suess.

Sports elite, movie stars and politicians converged onto the Desert Botanical Garden, in Phoenix, Arizona on February 2nd for a Super Bowl Celebration like no other. Super agent, Leigh Steinberg hosted this unique celebration with the theme of “going green”.

The location in this beautiful garden was set on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon that was very serene. Approximately 2,000 VIP guests walked up the “green carpet” and into the celebration that benefited the Arizona Environmental Fund.

Most people recognize Leigh Steinberg as the Super Agent who has represented Quarterbacks like Troy Aikman, Warren Moon, Steve Young and was the inspiration behind the movie Jerry Maguire.

He also is a noted environmentalist and used this annual event as a platform to promote environmentalism through sports and showcase sustainable practices and technologies.

We were proud to be invited to display our eco-friendly furniture located immediately when the guests left the “green carpet” and entered the celebration.

Mark Suess, designer of the outdoor teak collections, beamed when Arizona Governor, Janet Napolitano commented on the beauty of his work.

John Slattery, television star of Desperate Housewives, loved the look of the furniture and that was eco-friendly too.

The Leigh Steinberg Super Bowl celebration is always a “must attend” event for the social elite. Combining sports and the environmental movement has cast the eco-friendly message into the mainstream media and we were honored to be included in this special event.

Leigh Steinberg and Solange Whitehead prepare to launch a wild hawk into the wild. Unfortunately it used the top of my head as its launching pad into the blue sky.

The comeback victory of Eli Manning and the New York Giants capped an exciting weekend in the valley of the sun.
